Das Buch liefert theoretisch-methodische und deskriptive Grundlagen einer Varianzstilistik des Russischen im Wandel, die sowohl standard- als auch non-standard-sprachliche Phänomene integriert. Im Fokus der Non- Standard-Darstellung stehen dabei diverse Soziolekte, die auf russischem Boden spätestens seit 1917 eine Schlüsselrolle in der Etablierung des Non-Standards in Standard-Domänen spielen. Die stilistisch und ästhetisch, aber auch ideologisch bedingte Varianz zwischen dem Non-Standard und Standard wird im Spannungsfeld von alternativem künstlerischem Diskurs und offiziellem linguistischem Diskurs empirisch erfasst. Das erarbeitete Konzept der russischen Sprachgeschichte des 20.-21. Jh. befasst sich ferner mit ideologisch basiertem Paradigmenwechsel in der slawischen und speziell russischen Sprachwissenschaft, insbesondere nach gesellschaftlichen Brüchen in den Jahren 1917 und 1985.

This collection of essays tackles the issues that arise when multilingualism meets translation and discusses the findings with a particular focus on Slavonic migrant languages. Despite its high relevance from both the theoretical and the applied perspective, the intersection of multilingualism and translation has been rather neglected in international research on multilingualism. This volume intends to create a new angle within this wide field of research and to systematize the most relevant approaches and ideas on this topic in international Slavonic studies.

The Second World War gave a strong impulse to the development of translation and interpreting services in the Soviet Union. Military translators/interpreters were expected to engage in frontline propaganda, ad hoc language teaching and reconnaissance, without special preparation. Under constant ideological pressure, they had to come up with creative solutions for concrete problems. On the base of the prosopographic research and semi-structured interviews with three prominent representatives of the aforementioned school, this book describes different biographical and professional trajectories of military translators/interpreters during and after the Second World War. Their backgrounds are as diverse as they are distinct: German and German-Jewish migrants, romantic philological students and poets from the legendary Institute of Literature Studies in Moscow (IFLI), bilingual descendants of diplomatic families and outstanding students and teachers from university departments of German Studies. The translational competences and methodological insights acquired during the war contributed to the establishment of a Soviet school of translation/interpreting and German Studies.
